Battery Replacement

Battery degradation is a normal part of phone ownership. When it reaches the point where it's affecting your day, a replacement is often a straightforward and worthwhile fix.

How batteries degrade over time

Smartphone batteries are lithium-ion cells, and they naturally lose capacity as they go through charge and discharge cycles. This is normal and expected — it affects every rechargeable device. The rate of degradation varies depending on how the phone is used, how it's charged, and the ambient temperature it operates in.

Most batteries reach around 80% of their original capacity after somewhere between 300 and 500 full charge cycles, which typically corresponds to 2–3 years of regular use. At that point, you may begin to notice that the phone needs charging more often, or that performance during high-demand tasks is affected.

On some devices, the operating system uses battery health data to manage performance — meaning a degraded battery can cause the phone to run slower. This is a protective mechanism, not a fault, but it does mean a battery replacement can sometimes improve both battery life and responsiveness.

If your phone has both a degraded battery and screen damage, it sometimes makes sense to address both at the same time. Let us know the full picture and we'll give you a combined quote.

Our battery replacement process

  • 1

    Assessment

We check the battery's current health reading and run a brief diagnostic to confirm the battery is the primary issue. We also check the charging port and cable compatibility.

  • 2

    Quote confirmation

We confirm the replacement battery available for your model, the cost, and the expected turnaround time. Most common models can be done the same day.

  • 3

    Battery removal

Opening the device carefully, we disconnect and remove the existing battery. On glued-in batteries (common in modern smartphones), we use appropriate tools to release the adhesive safely.

  • 4

    New battery fitting

The replacement battery is seated, connected, and secured. We use fresh adhesive where required to ensure it stays in place safely.

  • 5

    Testing

We verify the new battery is being recognised correctly, charging normally, and that the health reading reflects the new cell. The device is then reassembled and handed back.

What to expect after replacement

After a battery replacement, the phone should last noticeably longer on a charge — provided the original battery was the limiting factor. In most cases, customers report a significant improvement.

It's worth noting that the improved capacity represents what the new battery can deliver. App background activity, screen brightness, and network usage will still affect how long your phone lasts on a charge, just as they would on a new device.

We recommend doing a full charge cycle (from low to full) in the first day or two after replacement.

If your phone has a swollen or bulging battery, please tell us when you get in touch. Swollen batteries need careful handling and we'll advise on the safest approach. Don't leave a swollen battery in a device for longer than necessary.

Transparency about parts

We use well-sourced replacement batteries for the device models we work on. We're transparent about the fact that these are not always original manufacturer cells — the aftermarket for batteries is large and quality varies significantly. We buy from suppliers with consistent track records and test cells before fitting.

Some devices — particularly certain Apple models — will show a warning in settings when a non-OEM battery is fitted. This is expected behaviour and does not affect functionality; it's simply the device checking if the part matches its known hardware signatures.

Limitations

Battery replacement resolves battery-specific issues. If your phone has other underlying faults — a software problem, a failing charging port, or hardware damage — a new battery alone may not fully resolve the symptoms. We'll identify this during assessment and let you know before proceeding.

As with all repairs, we provide a workmanship warranty on the fitting itself. This covers issues arising from the repair work, not from subsequent physical damage or unrelated faults.
