It sounds straightforward, but phones are complex systems. What looks like a single problem on the surface can have several underlying causes — or sometimes what appears to be a hardware fault is actually a software issue that doesn't need a repair at all.
A proper diagnostic means we don't guess. We test the individual components methodically — the touchscreen, battery, charging port, cameras, speakers, microphone, buttons, and cellular/Wi-Fi hardware — and check the software environment too. Only once we know what's actually happening can we give you advice you can rely on.
This is especially useful when your device is behaving erratically. Random shutdowns, intermittent connectivity issues, apps crashing, or ghost touches can all point to different root causes. Without checking properly, there's a real risk of replacing a part that doesn't actually need replacing.
We work through both hardware and software systematically, so nothing gets missed.
We check the screen for dead pixels, discolouration, backlight bleeding, and test touch responsiveness across the full panel — including edge and corner sensitivity.
We read the battery's charge cycle count and health percentage, test charging under load, and check for swelling or irregularities in the battery management system.
We test Wi-Fi signal strength, Bluetooth pairing, cellular reception, and GPS lock. Connectivity issues often point to antenna damage or software configuration problems.
Front and rear cameras are tested for focus accuracy, autofocus behaviour, image quality, and flash operation. We also check the camera app for software-level faults.
Speaker output, earpiece volume, microphone clarity, and 3.5mm jack (where present) are all tested. We check for crackling, low volume, and one-sided audio output.
We scan for software conflicts, check for pending system updates, review crash logs where accessible, and look for signs of app-level issues causing instability.
We start with a short conversation about what you've been experiencing. When it started, how frequently it happens, and whether anything changed beforehand — a drop, a software update, or exposure to water — all help us direct our checks efficiently.
Before we open anything, we examine the exterior closely under magnification. We're looking for signs of physical damage, previous repairs, water exposure indicators, and anything that might affect how we proceed with testing.
We work through each hardware component and run software diagnostics. This isn't a quick once-over — we take time to test properly, especially for intermittent faults that only appear under certain conditions.
Once the diagnostic is complete, we walk you through exactly what we identified — what's working normally, what isn't, and what we believe is causing the problem. We avoid jargon and make sure you understand the situation clearly before we say anything else.
If a repair is possible, we'll tell you what's involved, the estimated cost, and how confident we are in the outcome. If a repair isn't worth doing — because the cost outweighs the device's value, for example — we'll say that too. You leave with a clear picture, and the decision is yours.
A diagnostic gives you a clear picture of the device's current state and our best assessment of what's causing a problem. However, there are a few honest limitations worth knowing:
Some issues only occur under specific conditions — a particular temperature, a low charge level, or after extended use. If the fault doesn't appear during our testing window, we'll tell you that clearly rather than guessing.
Not every fault is a straightforward component swap. Some issues lie on the logic board itself and require specialist microsoldering techniques that fall outside a standard diagnostic scope. We'll refer you appropriately if that's the case.
Our assessment is accurate to the best of our ability, but repair costs are confirmed once we begin work and can verify the exact parts needed. We'll always get your approval before proceeding.
Bring your device in and we'll give you a straight answer. No jargon, no pressure, and no unnecessary repair recommendations.
